Nine teams took part in the WPA President’s Cup on Sunday 12th March, which was hosted by the Monkstone PC, Cardiff.
The competition is the traditional first ‘warm up ‘ competition of the playing season and played by open teams of triples.
After the pool stages in the morning and the two rounds of knock-out games, the final of the Main Competition was contested by a team from the newly formed Maesteg PC (Jeremy Clare, Len Field and Kevin Edwards) and a mixed team from Caerleon PC, the Wheatsheaf PC and Penarth PC (Gemma Foster, Kon Tomczyk and Jean-Yves Robic).
The Final was a tough contest but Gemma Foster’s team took the first win of the season 13-11. In the Plate, the final was contested by two local teams from the Monkstone PC, who fought hard and the trio composed of John Barnes, Keith Nott and Andy Temple and that trio finally defeated Judith Smith, Gill Clark and Roger Green 13-10.
Congratulations to all those who participated and we hope to see as many return for the forthcoming Stuart Clarke Cup on Sunday 26th March, which is also an open triple pre-season warm up competition.
