Nations Veterans Cup – A message from the President

So, the Nations Veterans Cup has come to a close at the end of a wonderful weekend.

Helped in no small measure by fantastic weather, the competition was played in a great spirit of sportsmanship and friendship, and organised flawlessly  by the Executive Committee and members of the Monkstone Petanque Club.

Congratulations to all the players from each of the 6 countries who took part for making a great competition. Two outstanding sides representing Denmark took the overall honours, with Denmark 1 coming out on top by one win over Denmark 2. Huge congratulations to them.

Some special words of thanks must go to the following people for making the weekend such  success:

Big thanks to Mike Pegg for agreeing to Umpire the event and keeping everyone in line. I don’t think he was taxed too hard, mainly just settling measures and time-keeping.

Barbara, Joy, Judith, Vickie and especially Lynda for their outstanding work planning, preparing and serving everyone with excellent lunches and dinners.

The Club volunteers: Mike Jones, Roger Griffin, Tony Smith, Mike Wigg, Keith Nott, Pete Kensett & Sean Smith among others for transporting players, keeping everything running smoothly and keeping the tea, coffee and, especially, water flowing.

An extra special mention must go to Bernard Adshead for organising the weekend and running the competition in an exemplary manner and helping to make such a success of the whole event.

Well done everyone.
