The League Cup Competition runs parallel to the National League competition and adds another dimension to the playing season. Teams playing in the National League do not have to play in the League Cup, but are encouraged to do so.
21 of the teams (see below) that have entered the League in 2019 have also entered the League Cup/Plate Competition.
The League Cup/Plate is taking a new format this season to eliminate the large number of byes that we needed and to avoid the general apathy that seems to exist in some Clubs if they get through to the Plate semi-final – apathy which is expressed by them not turning up! This year the competition will be played like the Champions League – there will be 4 pools of 5 or 6 teams drawn at random and the teams in each Pool will play each other once in a mini-league. On Finals Day, the teams finishing top of each Pool will contest the semi-finals and the winners of the semi-finals will play for the Cup whilst the losers will play for the Plate.
Finals Day Fixtures
- Winner Pool A v Winner Pool C
- Winner Pool B v Winner Pool D
Cup Final – Winner Match 1 v Winner Match 2
Plate Final – Loser Match 1 v Loser Match 2
The draw for the League Cup/Plate was made at the Pontyclun Triples on Sunday 24 March 2019 by Robin Hughes – President, Pontyclun RFC. Unfortunately Wenvoe Raiders were included in the draw when they had indicated that they did not want to take part. This has meant that Pool B fixture list has had to be revised. A simple omission of Wenvoe Raiders did not work as 1 team ended up with 3 home fixtures out of 4 games whilst another had 3 away games. The pattern of the fixture grid from Pools C & D has therefore been repeated for Pool B.
Games in each round must be played ON OR BEFORE the dates shown on the fixture grids:
