The 2006 WPA Presentation evening was hosted by the ROF Petanque Club at the BAE Systems Sports and Social Club, Glascoed near Usk. Nearly all the affiliated clubs were represented by the members present. Don Jenkins the WPA President compared the evening with assistance from Alison Walton the WPA Youth Development Officer. The
winners of the 2006 Division One title are the Monkstone Monarchs,
represented by John Barnes and Roger Griffin of the Monkstone Inn Petanque
Club, Cardiff. The Monkstone Monarchs last won
the Division One title in 2004.
The
runners-up of Division One are the Wenvoe Raiders from
the Wenvoe Petanque Club. The Wenvoe Raiders were runners-up in Division
Two in 2005.
The
winners of the 2006 Division Two title are Abergavenny, all six members
of the team were present to receive their awards from Don Jenkins.
Abergavenny were runners-up in Division Three in 2005.
The
runners-up of Division Two are the Barnstomers from The Barn Inn.
The awards was received by Anthony Walton Secretary of the Barn Petanque
Club.
The
winners of the 2006 Division Three are the Penarth Pic n Mix team,
represented by Judith Smith the Secretary of Penarth Petanque Club
and Colin Ballett one of the team members who successfully with other
members of Penarth Club won this title for the first time.
The
runners-up of Division Three are the Caerleon Greens from
the Caerleon RFC Petanque Club, this was their first season in the
WPA league and must be congratulated on their effort. The award was
received by Tansy Mayfield.
The
winners of the 2006 WPA League Cup are The Wheatshef. They were runners-up
to Panteg In Shops in 2005.
The
runners-up are The Penarth Pendragons from the Penarth Petanque Club,
who were also runners-up in 2000 and 2002.
The
2006 WPA League Plate winners are Abergavenny from the Abergavenny
Petanque Club. 
The
Stuart Clarke Cup was won by John Legge and Chris Brown.
The
winners of the inaugural Welsh Cup for Clubs, which was played for
the very first time with teams from The Monkstone, Abergavenny, Panteg
and the winners The Wheatsheaf.
The 2006 National Singles Champion is Paul Mayfield.
The runner-up was Jake Caston of The Wheatsheaf.
The
National Doubles Champions for 2006 are the reigning Champions Neil
Dobbins and Peter Westall from the Monkstone Petanque Club, Cardiff.
Neil Dobbins was not present at the awards evening.
The
runners-up are Gemma Foster and Jake Caston from The Wheatsheaf.
The
2006 National Triples Champions are Coral Jenkins, Don Jenkins and
John Hewitt from Panteg Phoenix Pétanque Club. It is the first time
that this triple has won this competition.
The
runners-up for 2006 are Rhys Lee, Rhydian Lee and Luke Robbins (formally
Ross) who are the youngest team ever to br placed in this National
event.
The
WPA Junior player of the year is in fact two members of the same family,
Rhydian & Rhys Lee, who won the award for their outstanding efforts
in the Inter-regional, Home Nations and National competitions throughout
2006.
Peter
Hufton of the Monkstone Inn Petanque Club was voted the Most Improved
Player of the Year for his remarkable efforts to learn the sport during
2006 and playing with two of the countries top players in the Home
Nations Competition held at Cardiff Yacht Club in August 2006. Peter's
play continues to improve.
Jake
Caston of the Wheatsheaf Inn Petanque Club rounded off the season by
being voted the WPA Senior Player of the Year for his support of the
sport.
