Welsh Petanque Association - Welsh Club Cup Competition
Draw for the European Cup for Clubs is announced
As we all know this will be the first time Wales has hosted a team from mainland Europe in a competition of this stature and therefore I am asking all clubs within the association to assist the Monkstone in anyway they can with hosting of visiting teams or just providing additional hand on the day. It is important the we provide the right image to our fellow associations. As a matter of interest Scotland have been drawn to play at home against BC Sandhofen Mannheim of Germany and England have been drawn to play away against ASD Circolo San Giuliano Lido from Italy in a “preliminary round”, these matches are due to be played in April/May. Good luck to everybody taking part. The draw for the Euro Cup 2008 can be downloaded by following this link. Tony Smith |

Results after the final Round. The final round of the 2008 qualifier was held at Abergavenny on 2nd March to see who would qualify for the coveted top position to enter the European Club Cup Competition. All six clubs presented themselves for the final round, an interesting last round, the Monkstone were drawn against Abergavenny, lying 1st and 3rd, respectively. Panteg were drawn against Penarth, lying 2nd and 5th, respectively. If Panteg played well against Penarth and Abergavenny took valuable games from the Monkstone then all could change at the top of the table. However, at the end of the day The Monkstone Inn won through to win the competition and Penarth took 5 games from Panteg to upset their challenge for the trophy. The results after the final round are:
Our congratulations got to the Monkstone Inn Petanque Club on winning the 2008 Welsh Club Cup Competition. |

Results after Round 2.Round 2 of the Club Cup Competition saw another perfect day for the entered clubs to improve their standing after round 1. The results after Round 2 are:
Monkstone are still top after two rounds but they needed to win some additional games as Panteg are still hot on their heels. What spoiling tactics will Abergavenny and Penarth cause in the final round of the competition to be held on 2nd March at Abergavenny. |

Results after Round 1.A bright cold day saw the first round of the 2008 Welsh Club Cup Competition under way at The Wheatsheaf. Six clubs are challenging for the title and the opportunity to play in the European round of this prestigious competition. The results after round 1 are:
Monkstone are top of the table but Panteg are closely on their tail, Abergavenny in third place could change the table if they pull the stops out in Round 2. The Wheatsheaf, Penarth and Wenvoe need to dig deep to salvage their hopes of of a top three place. The next round of the competition will take place at the Monkstone Inn on Sunday 10th February. |
