The Welsh Pétanque Association (WPA) is the governing body for the sport of Pétanque, commonly called Boule in Wales. The WPA is a member of the Welsh Sports Association (WSA) and is affiliated with the World Petanque Bowls Federation (WPBF), which the IOCF recognises, Fédération Internationale de Pétanque et Jeu Provençal (FIPJP), the World governing body of the sport, and also the European governing body, the Confédération Européenne de Pétanque (CEP).
The WPA aims to promote the development of the sport for all people in Wales – irrespective of age, gender, race, ethnicity, faith, politics, sexuality or disability. A few sports offer a good opportunity for a wide range of people to play equally against one another. It is also a very sociable game; even the major competitions organised in Wales have a friendly and encouraging atmosphere – above all, we want people to enjoy the game.
Welsh Pétanque clubs currently tend to be concentrated in the South Wales area. If a club is near you, they will only be too happy to get you started playing the sport. If there is no club nearby, perhaps you might like to create one; the WPA can provide you with help and advice.
