The National League Competition is an annual event and is very popular with the clubs in Wales. Each year, the competition is fiercely fought to win the respective league title and, where possible, gain promotion to the next division. Even though there is a competitive element to these games, the atmosphere is friendly and enjoyable.
The competition runs weekly, every Wednesday, this year from April to early September. Teams will play both home and away fixtures.
The National League is currently the only league affiliated with the WPA. However, a small dedicated committee runs the BIG (Boules in Gwent) League. Should you require further information on the BIG League, please do not hesitate to contact us, and we can put you in touch with the organisers.
The 2025 League season commences on 30 April 2025. 26 Teams have entered, an increase from last season of 6 and we have a new club, City of Llandaff PC and an existing club, SWBRC PS, which has split into two clubs, Sully PC and Vale PC. This is too many teams to be accommodated in 3 Divisions. Because the new club, City of Llandaff PC, has entered four teams, putting them all into a Fourth Division with two other teams would have meant that they were playing each other almost every week. The Executive has, therefore decided on a scheme similar to last season to better integrate these new teams into the League by forming Divisions 3A & 3B, which will become Divisions 3 & 4 in 2026 (subject to the number of teams entered in 2026)
