Mandeep Toor and Marcus Chapman Dominate the Peter Westall Novice Cup.

The 2025 Peter Westall Novice Cup saw fierce competition and impressive performances, with the partnership of Mandeep Toor and Marcus Chapman emerging as the undisputed winners.

Competing across three tightly contested rounds, Toor and Chapman (drawn 11) clinched first place with three wins and an impressive points difference of 22 points, showcasing consistency, accuracy, and a positive attitude throughout the competition. Their highlight victory came with a decisive 13-3 win in the final round, sealing their top spot.

Beryl and Ian McCarthy (drawn 9) followed closely in second place, demonstrating strong form with two wins and a final points difference of 14 points. At the same time, Spencer Bartlett and Colin Burfoot (drawn 7) took third, also winning two matches and amassing a points difference of 11 points. Despite a narrow loss early in the tournament, their determination propelled them to a strong finish.

Competition organiser remarks highlighted the event’s success:
“It’s inspiring to see such a diverse field, from veterans to emerging junior talent, all playing with passion and sportsmanship. Congratulations to our winners and all who participated,” said a WPA Executive member, Sean Smith.

Other notable mentions include last year’s winners, Gareth and Maddie Bartlett (Junior), who finished fourth, and Lloyd Kinsey and Keith Miller, rounding out the top five. Also, a special mention must be made of the six junior players who participated in this year’s competition: Maddie Bartlett (2 wins), George Legge (2 wins), James Price (2 wins), Teilo Meunier (2 wins), Simona Giddy (2 wins) and Reuben Giddy (1 win).

The PWC Novice Cup continues to be a cherished event on the annual WPA calendar, bringing together inexperienced players in a spirited celebration of pétanque camaraderie and competitive excellence.
