PETER WESTALL, RIP

It is with a desperately heavy heart that I write to inform everyone of the tragic death earlier today of Peter Westall.

Peter was in Bulgaria with Diane taking a short holiday and preparing to play in the upcoming European Veterans & Men’s Triples competitions next week.

Peter died suddenly in his hotel room this afternoon at approx. 2.00pm local time. Diane was with him at the time.

I have been in communication with Diane all afternoon and evening. Their daughters, Louise & Lindsey, are en route to Bulgaria to be with her.

Please can I ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy at this very difficult time.

Thank you.

Bob

Sad News – Mark Plato, Telent CEO

As many  members will be aware, earlier this year we managed to secure a very generous sponsorship arrangement with telent, the IT company.

The sponsorship was approved by the company’s CEO, Mark Plato.

It is with a great sadness that we heard earlier this week that Mark had tragically lost his life in a motorcycle accident.

The Welsh Petanque Association would like to pass on its sincere condolences to Mark’s family and friends.

Matching team shirts at Home Nations GP qualifiers and future WPA competitions

Previous posts have mentioned it and everyone should be aware that all teams entered into a WPA qualifying event or WPA competition must wear matching tops, something that isn’t always easy if the team members are from different clubs.

As we are all aware, we now have the new Welsh shirts for “International” competitions (Celtic Challenge and Home Nations included) and these now supersede all earlier versions.  As a result, the Exec. has agreed that players may play in the older style WPA shirts which will hopefully assist you in arranging matching shirts.

If team members have the earlier style Welsh shirts it will save them the cost/trouble of getting matching shirts and the dreaded £10 fine for not wearing matching tops can be avoided.

Any queries please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Regards

Gareth
