The first day of the first competition of the WPA Calendar took place on Saturday, 22nd March and was hosted by the Cardiff Harlequins PC.
Forty-two players, including two juniors representing six affiliated clubs, came together to try to win the 2025 President’s Novice Cup title. The clubs were:
- Caerleon RFC PC
- Cardiff Harlequins PC
- City of Llandaff PC
- Colwinston PC
- Monkstone PC
- Mumbles PC
Two novice teams were comprised of non-WPA members.
The 13 teams played a three-round melee. Unfortunately, there had to be a bye in each round.
After three competitive but enjoyable rounds, three more experienced novice teams won the day, all with three wins.
Congratulations must go to Teilo and Lina Meunier, junior WPA members who played with their mother Michele (a true novice of petanque) in their first competition and won a game against players who have played the sport a little longer. The team are all members of the Monkstone Petanque club.
Congratulations to everyone who took part and made the competition very enjoyable.
The WPA would like to thank the Committee and Cardiff Harlequins Petanque Club members for hosting the President’s Novice Cup and for their generous hospitality throughout.
