Documentation
The Rules, Club Team Registration Sheet and Score Card can be reviewed and downloaded from the links below.
The design of the Score Card has changed. Team Managers should make themselves familiar with the new format before the competition. Score Cards will be emailed to the Team Manager before the first round of the competition.
Updated: 03/06/26
For each encounter, a club team can consist of a minimum of six (6) up to a maximum of nine (9) players under the following conditions:
- A team of six (6) players must include one player of the opposite gender to the remainder of the team.
- Teams of seven (7), eight (8) or nine (9) players must include two players of the opposite gender to the rest of the team.
All participants must be affiliated with the Club they represent at the time of the competition and cannot, under any circumstances, play for another club during the course of the competition.
Each match consists of eleven games over three (3) rounds played in the following order.
- Round One (1) Singles: Six (6) individual players versus six (6) individual players, where one game must be between female players.
- Round Two (2) Doubles: One (1) mixed double versus one (1) mixed double and, at the same time, two (2) open doubles versus two (2) open doubles.
- Round Three (3) Triples: One (1) mixed triple versus one (1) mixed triple, and at the same time, one (1) open triple versus one (1) open triple.
Follow this link for the Rules for the Welsh Cup. This will be updated when required.
Ideally, the Welsh Club Champions shall be based on the total number of points won. However, should there be a tie on the number of wins, then Article 22, detailed in the published Rules European Cup, shall be used, which states that:
The following formula will be applied to decide the results:
- The number of Match Points, if two or more teams are tied, then:
- Game Points between the tied teams.
- Points Difference between the tied teams.
- Points Difference between all the teams in the group.
All results must be relayed to the Management Committee using the official Club Registration and Score Sheets.
European Cup for Clubs
Although the Welsh Cup is an inter-club competition, it also has a European aspect. The WPA will ask the winning Club if they wish to participate in the European Cup, to be held in France at the end of the year. This invitation is NOT a compulsory requirement for the winning Club and may be declined.
The European Cup is organised by the Confédération Européenne de Pétanque (CEP). Click here to learn more.
