Skill Shine’s Bright at the 2026 Welsh Petanque Association President’s Cup

A spectacular weekend of Petanque in Wales culminated in a fantastic day of competition down at the Monkstone Petanque Club, where 24 triples teams battled it out to claim the coveted 2026 Welsh Petanque Association (WPA) President’s Cup.

It was an incredible sight to see over 75 participants, alongside a fantastic turnout of spectators, soaking up the brilliant atmosphere and the welcome sunshine. The event was a true celebration of the sport and the vibrant community that keeps it thriving across Wales.

Fierce Competition on the Pistes

The tournament featured some highly competitive games right from the start. During the morning’s ranking phase, the margins for error were incredibly slim. The standard of play was such that a number of highly experienced teams found themselves narrowly missing out on a spot in the afternoon’s elite Gold knockout bracket. Every point mattered, keeping both players and spectators checking on each of the games being played.

The 2026 Champions

Congratulations to all the finalists who showcased excellent skill and teamwork under pressure. Here are the teams that took home the hardware this year:

• Gold Winners: Kym, George, and Aimee                              Runners Up: David, Elijah and Sean

• Silver Winners: Darren, Joe, and Len F                               Runners Up: Andrew, Vanessa and Len C

• Bronze Winners: Andy-Rios, Davide, and Stephen          Runners Up: Phil, Rob, Rhys, Benoit

A Community Effort

A tournament of this size and success doesn’t happen by accident. A massive thank you goes out to the Monkstone Petanque Club for being such gracious hosts for the weekend’s events.

Special recognition must also be given to the dedicated volunteers who worked tirelessly behind the scenes. From prepping the pistes to managing the registration process , their efforts ensured that things ran smoothly throughout the entire day.
