Monkstone Pétanque Club’s Junior Section Thrives Following Recent Expansion

In early 2023, Monkstone Pétanque Club embarked on a mission to expand its junior membership, aiming to create a vibrant and thriving junior section. Starting with just two junior members, the club’s efforts have already paid off, with the Junior Section growing to eleven members since its official establishment in April 2023. The club hopes numbers will continue to rise, especially with a taster session planned for 26th October.

Led by Ashley Seath, the Junior Section runs alongside the regular club sessions every Sunday from 11:00 to 13:00 (weather permitting). The program is supported by a dedicated group of volunteers who have undergone DBS checks, with a WPA-qualified Senior Coach overseeing activities to ensure a safe and structured environment for the young players.

The Junior Section has already seen its members make impressive strides in the sport. Four juniors—Maddie Bartlett, Kitty Johnson, Lina and Teilo Muenier—recently participated in the club doubles competition, delivering outstanding performances. Maddie Bartlett’s skill and dedication were notably recognised, as she was awarded the Best Junior Trophy.

Despite the competitive nature of the event, the juniors felt comfortable and supported throughout, with senior club members offering encouragement and guidance. The atmosphere fostered a sense of camaraderie, as the adult players actively engaged with the juniors, providing them with a positive and motivating experience.

Monkstone Pétanque Club remains committed to nurturing young talent and fostering a supportive environment where juniors can thrive as the Junior Section grows.
