Another successful Welsh Petanque Association supported International Women’s Day (IWD) event has recently taken place with this year’s host, The City of Llandaff PC, providing a wonderful back-drop to what was an enjoyable time for all.
With the IWD colours purple, green, and white very much on show, over 40 players from a number of clubs enjoyed the friendly atmosphere. Players ranged in age from 11 to… well, we didn’t ask. The women new to competitions appreciated the friendliness and support of more experienced players.
The melee finished with a number of players winning all their games, however the youngest player Simon Giddy (Monkstone PC) took out the top prize.

In addition to being a fun event, over £350 was raised for the MND Charity (Motor Neurone Disease).
Check the WPA calendar for other Women-Only events, such as the National Doubles on May 10th, the National Singles on May 17th and a range of Open Doubles competition throughout the Summer months.
Thank you to the City of Llandaff PC and all their volunteers who willingly spent time creating a wonderful event for all the Women that attended. And thank you to the Women that travelled from as far away as Mumbles to join in the IWD celebration.
Keep Sunday 7th March 2027 in your diary for the 4th edition of the International Women’s Day event.
