The Italian Pétanque Federation is preparing to host the 2025 Pétanque World Championships on behalf of the FIPJP, bringing together the best players from across the globe. This year’s event will feature Singles (Men and Women), Doubles (Men and Women), and Mixed Doubles competitions. It will take place in the historic surroundings of Villa Borghese, the Galoppatoio district in Rome, from 17 to 22 September 2025.

A total of 51 federations from around the world have registered for what promises to be an exciting and highly competitive championship.

Experience and New Talent

Both Tansy Mayfield and Richard Harris previously represented Wales at the 2019 World Championships in Spain. Tansy, in particular, brings a wealth of international experience, having competed in several World and European Championships.

Meanwhile, Kate Price and Sean Smith will be making their first-ever World Championship appearances. For them, this event offers not only a challenge but also an opportunity to experience the excitement of competing at the highest level of pétanque.

The squad will be supported by coaches Jean-Yves Robic (National Coach) and Tony Smith, who will be guiding and preparing the players for their matches.

A Continuing Journey for Wales

Wales first competed at a World Championship in Senegal in 2008 and has since made a consistent effort to take part in subsequent global tournaments. Their presence in Rome is another proud step forward in raising the profile of Welsh pétanque on the world stage.
