Over the weekend of the 10th and 11th of June, we celebrated Peter Westall by holding the Peter Westall Novice Cup and Peter Westall Cup.

This year saw the Peter Westall Novice Cup run the way it was originally created.
Eight teams of novice players participated in a reduced melee competition format to encourage new players to compete against novice players from other clubs.
Tony Smith and Jean-Yves Robic were on hand to provide advice and clarity to enable players to enjoy the event and also develop their understanding of the sport.

Peter Westall Cup.
Twenty-four teams competed to win the prestigious Peter Westall Cup on Sunday. The players were drawn into six groups of four for the morning qualification round.
The top team from each Group, plus the two best teams finishing in second place, progressed to the Peter Westall Cup (Gold Competition).
The remaining four teams finishing in second place, plus the four top teams finishing third, progressed to the Silver Competition. With
the remaining eight teams progressed to the Bronze Competition.
It was especially welcome to see Peter’s family members participating in the competition, endeavouring to follow his winning ways.
The three-afternoon competitions were straight elimination.

We were extremely fortunate that the event was supported by Peter’s family and friends, which went to create a fantastic atmosphere at the Monkstone Petanque Club, at which Peter was a member as he was of many other clubs within the association.
We were especially pleased that Olivia Westall (left with Tony Smith, WPA President and competition Organiser), Peter’s granddaughter, wanted to say a few heartfelt words at the prize-giving to thank everyone who turned up and supported the weekend of events. Of course, being biased, Olivia reminded that if Peter had been there, he would have won the event easily – who could argue with that! Olivia was then invited to present the cash prizes to all the winners and runners-up and, finally, the Peter Westall Cup.
