The Wheatsheaf Petanque Club is sad to announce that Colin Sweet (67), a long-standing member, passed away suddenly and tragically on Saturday, 2nd April 2022.

Colin has been a long-standing mainstay of the club. He could turn his hand to anything and be always there with a willing smile and a helping hand.

His abilities were many, whether it was cooking the meal for the club’s Christmas party or, only on Saturday afternoon, helping to clear and prepare the pistes at the club’s new venue at Newport High School Old Boys’ Rugby Club.

Colin joined the WPA in 2007 and has been part of the Wheatsheaf’s League Team every year since and entered other WPA competitions throughout the playing season.

He will be sadly missed by us all.

The WPA would like to extend its sincere condolences to Colin’s wife, Jean and all their family at this difficult time.
