Match Action
There were 25 players from clubs in Glamorgan and Gwent who took part in the second Welsh Petanque Association warm up  competition of the playing season. The competition was played on the challenging terrains at Pentwyn Leisure Centre, Cardiff, in perfect conditions.
After the pool stages in the morning and the two rounds of knock-out games; the final of the Main competition was contested by a mixed team from Wenvoe PC and Penarth PC (Ian Bailey, Julie Bailey and Jean-Yves Robic) and the ‘in form’ team from the newly formed Maesteg PC (Jeremy Clare, Len Field and Kevin Edwards), who contested their second final in as many weeks, after losing in the President’s Cup last weekend.
The Final was evenly contested in the first two ends but Ian’s team took the lead and cruised to a comfortable 13-3 win to take the Cup.
In the Plate, the final was contested between a team from the Monkstone PC (Phil Bradshaw, Peter Kenset, John Maroney and Rose Fiera) and a team from the Gwent League (Hugh Morris, Christine McCaddon and Karen Robbins). Despite a good resistance from the Gwent players in the early stages of the game, the Monkstone PC team claimed victory, 13-5.
