2017 League Season Done & Dusted

The final round of League matches took place on Wednesday 30 August 2017 with all the promotion and relegation issues being settled. All the final league tables are available on the National League page.

Division 1:  Monkstone Monarchs were already Champions retaining the title they won last year but they lost their final match to Isca Romans giving the Romans the Runner Up place as Wenvoe Warriors could only manage a draw at Monkstone Inn Un. Wheatsheaf who were also contenders for the No. 2 spot could only sit and watch as they had completed their games last week.

With Pontyclun Badgers already relegated, the second relegation spot was still in doubt with either Monkstone Minotaurs or Monkstone Inn Un destined for the drop. Whilst Wenvoe Warriors draw at Monkstone Inn was not sufficient to give them the No. 2 place, it doomed Monkstone Inn to the Second Division as the Minotaurs won 4-0 against the Badgers and pipped Monkstone Inn by 1 point.

Division 2:  Wenvoe Raiders and Penarth Pendragons, having already gained promotion, were vying to be crowned Champions and the finish couldn’t have been closer. With the Raiders only managing a draw at home to relegated Monkstone Inn Youth and the Pendragons also getting a draw at home to Creigiau Jacques, the Raiders took the top spot by the narrowest of margins. Both teams finished on 26 points but the Raiders had a 1 “game +” advantage over the whole season.

The relegation issues were already decided with Monkstone Inn Youth & Monkstone Musketeers taking the drop into the third division.

Division 3:  Maesteg had already been been confirmed Champions of this division and continued their winning ways with a 4-0 victory over Barnes Wallace. Caerleon Celts retained their Runners Up spot despite an unexpected home defeat by Monkstone Mystics and will join Maesteg in the second division next season.

The win at the Celts ensured that the Mystics avoided the wooden spoon which went to Cwins.
